FALL RIVER CONTRIBUTORY RETIREMENT BOARD REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL TO PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES
The Fall River Contributory Retirement Board (FRRB), which is a Massachusetts Public Pension System operating in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 32, is seeking a qualified attorney to advise and represent the FRRB in all legal matters.
The FRRB is comprised of a 5-member Board, which is charged with the pension administration of its approximately 3,800 active and retired public employee members. The Board employs a full-time Executive Director to manage the daily operations of the retirement system and three full-time support staff.
Attorneys/Law firms must submit a proposal to be considered and must have at least 5 years of specific experience representing a minimum of three Massachusetts public pension boards/systems. Proposals must include the following information:
July 2009: The Fall River Retirement Board is currently reviewing Chapter 21, of the Acts of 2009, the so-called "Pension Reform" law. Chapter 21 redefines some aspects of the law (M.G.L. Chapter 32) governing the prospective pension benefits of current and future public employees. Retirees are not impacted in any way by the new law.
Prior to the Board making any determination, as to how Chapter 21 will be implemented in Fall River, we are awaiting further direction and analysis from the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC). We are also working closely with the city and union representatives to determine how the new law may impact collective bargaining agreements.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Chapter 21, please feel free to contact our office directly.
