Welcome

Fall River is a city in Bristol County, located about 46 miles south of Boston, 16 miles southeast of Providence, Rhode Island and 12 miles west of New Bedford. The city's population was 91,802 during the 2005 census. Fall River's motto is "We'll Try." Fall River is nicknamed "The Scholarship City" which is seen on the welcome signs entering the city.
Notice of Election

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE FALL RIVER CONTRIBUTORY RETIREMENT SYSTEM

    An election is to be held at the Fall River Retirement Board office located at 30 Third Street, Suite 301,  Fall River, MA 02720 on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. for the purpose of electing a member of the System to serve on the Fall River Retirement Board for a term of three (3) years.  Said term will commence on December 12, 2010 and end December 11, 2013.

All holding membership in the Fall River Contributory Retirement System may qualify as a candidate by filing with the Fall River Retirement Board a nomination paper containing the signatures and addresses of at least twenty (20) members of the System.  The nomination papers must be filed on or before 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 8, 2010.

NOMINATION PAPERS ARE TO BE OBTAINED AT THE FALL RIVER RETIREMENT BOARD, 30 THIRD STREET, SUITE 301, FALL RIVER, MA 02720.

    ABSENTEE BALLOT:  Requests for absentee ballots by non-retired members shall be in writing and shall be filed with the Fall River Retirement Board’s designated Election Officer no later than the day before the election.  A vote by absentee ballot is permitted for the following reasons only:
Member will be absent from the City of Fall River during the election hours on December 8, 2010;
Member is unable to cast his/her vote on the day of the election for reasons of religious belief; or
Member is unable to vote in person due to a temporary physical disability.

FALL RIVER CONTRIBUTORY RETIREMENT BOARD REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL TO PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES

The Fall River Contributory Retirement Board (FRRB), which is a Massachusetts Public Pension System operating in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 32, is seeking a qualified attorney to advise and represent the FRRB in all legal matters.

The FRRB is comprised of a 5-member Board, which is charged with the pension administration of its approximately 3,800 active and retired public employee members.  The Board employs a full-time Executive Director to manage the daily operations of the retirement system and three full-time support staff.

Attorneys/Law firms must submit a proposal to be considered and must have at least 5 years of specific experience representing a minimum of three Massachusetts public pension boards/systems.  Proposals must include the following information:

3% COLA Approved

The Fall River Retirement Board has approved a 3% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for Fiscal Year 2010. Eligible retirees will receive a 3% COLA on the first $12,000 of one's pension, up to a maximum annual benefit of $360, beginning this July. State law requires a retiree to have been retired for one full fiscal year (6/30/08-7/1/09) in order to be eligible for the FY10 COLA.The first installment of the new COLA will be paid in the July 2010 pension check.
